Ring in the new...

And 2016 arrives in a torrent of water and misery for so many...houses and possessions ruined by excessive rainfall and our ability to see our past errors and therefore seem powerless to prevent it... With all the dreadful killings in 2015 throughout the world, the flooding in the UK, bush fires in Australia and tornadoes in the US it is probably best to say goodbye to 2015...and lets all hope that 2016 will be somehow better.

Photographically the seemingly relentless march of mirror-less cameras continues...soon the bulge of a penta-prism will be as old fashioned and quaint as film I have no doubt, but until I finally succumb to this inevitable change I shall continue to use a camera with a proper mirror and screen... The D3 I now find myself shooting is a thing of great beauty and is so well made it is a joy to hold and work with...nothing gives me greater joy that opening the Billingham and selecting a prime lens...images appear in the viewfinder...believe me...a great way to earn a few bob...

During the past month my images have developed a cohesive style I think was lacking in the past. Maybe I have now found my style - who knows, but I like what I am seeing at the moment...a few from December to start...

I feel there is a cohesiveness to the images...anyone?

Taking Quinn to school before the Christmas break I came upon a wrecked car...anything can make a decent image if you approach it creatively...

The patterns formed by burning paint are fascinating...

A Christmas trip to Scarborough always promises photo opportunities and when the appalling weather let up I was able to get out and about - a charity football match in the rain on Boxing Day and glorious sunshine the day after...typical English weather...

And that made a pretty good end to the year...The Nikon D3 and Nikkor 20mm f2.8 AFD lens make a pretty good combination - and when necessary the Nikkor 85mm f1.8 AFD makes a great pair...street shooting and stock shooting was never more pleasurable...

So, as ever you can keep up with my daily shoots here... or here, as always and I hope you stay with me throughout 2016 and see what the world of photography takes us...
